Communication
The freedom of the press guaranteed by the German constitution is one of the outstanding features of a democratic constitutional state. The aim of our communication is to make police actions transparent and comprehensible.

The freedom of the press guaranteed in the German constitution is one of the outstanding features of a democratic constitutional state. It creates the conditions for the formation of will and opinion. For this reason, the state press law obliges authorities to provide representatives of the press with the information they need to fulfill their public duties.

The press work of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district police authority is based on the following objectives and standards:

  • It fulfills its obligation to provide information in accordance with Section 4 of the NRW State Press Act and creates the basis for objective reporting in the media.
  • It conveys an objective image of the police to the public.
Streife - The NRW police magazine

The North Rhine-Westphalia police magazine, Streife, has been published by the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior since 1962.

It is produced by the Public Relations and Online Communication Department in close cooperation with the Police Department.

In addition, employees from the specialist departments (police law, training and further training, operational and traffic matters, crime prevention, law enforcement and police equipment / information and communication technology) support the editorial team as part of a "themed conference", which is headed by a police officer.

The majority of editorial contributions to "Streife" come from police officers from the North Rhine-Westphalian police authorities and the German Police University (DHPol) in Münster-Hiltrup. They report in a practice-oriented manner on official projects or their own experiences in the course of their daily duties. The overarching contributions come from the police department of the Ministry of the Interior or from state project groups, which have a state-wide reference and are intended to reach all police employees.

The "Streife" is just one instrument of internal communication from the Ministry of the Interior's public relations work. In a media mix of print and internet products, but also in conjunction with coordinated press work, employees are kept "up to date" on the main topics of police work or organizational development. Feedback is expressly encouraged!

Since 1962, "Streife" has been the only state-wide staff newspaper for employees of the North Rhine-Westphalian police force. It has a monthly print run of 18,000 copies and is delivered six times a year. It is distributed in all North Rhine-Westphalian police departments, including the Ministry of the Interior, the LAFP, LKA and LZPD NRW, in all 47 district police authorities as well as in the universities of applied sciences and the DHPol. Retired officers receive a free subscription to "Streife" or can pick up "their" copy at their former offices. In addition to the printed edition, the digital version is also available for download as a PDF document on the NRW police website. This combination of services has proven its worth.

In addition, "Streife" is sent by subscription to all state and federal ministries of the interior, as well as to numerous state and federal police stations/training centers and other countries.

In addition, external subscribers also receive "Streife". In addition to commercial enterprises, insurance companies and professional organizations, these include media representatives from the print, film/television, radio and online sectors and many private households. Several state and federal politicians receive their personal copy. In addition, the "Streife" is sent to all members of the interior and local government committees in the NRW state parliament.
